Adamo Ruggiero Comes Out Gay

Degrassi cutie, Adamo Ruggiero, just made the show a whole lot gayer. Adamo, who plays a gay student on the hit show, just came out of the closet himself! The cute 21 year old actor spentÂ most of his teenage years on the show playing Marcos, and like his character, struggled to acceptÂ his sexuality and come out to his friends and family. Adamo says that his character help him cope with own sexuality… Marcos just happen to come out of the closet a little faster in TV world.Â See what else Adamo has to say after the jump.

“It really scared me…Everything I was feeling, and all the questions I was having, were kind of being broadcast to the world.”

Adamo joked, “the upside was inheriting an instruction manual for coming out”.

“Every time Marco did it, I did it. Marco came out to his mom in his room, on the bed, and I did the exact same thing with my mother in my bedroom. Marco confronted his dad in his kitchen, and I did the exact same thing with my dad, in my kitchen. And I didn’t plan it that way. Maybe it’s life imitating art, or maybe Degrassi let me do something real. I feel like I’m living proof of what this show was working to accomplish.”

Aww, he’s getting cuter by the letters ;-) Adamo’s coming out story will also be featured on Canadian Fab Magazine.

“I was growing up at the exact same time that my character was growing up. He was questioning things that I was questioning and I was just a kid and Iâ€™m completely petrified and you donâ€™t really understand or know where you fit in or who you are, and my characterâ€™s asking these exact same questions, but he moved along a little faster than I did – for TV timeâ€™s sake.

I think it really scared me. I think I suddenly had this kind of third life. There was the composed life and the TV life, and then there was my personal life in a way. So it was a little overwhelming in the sense that everything that I was feelingâ€¦”

Adamo Ruggiero is such an inspiration to all, including myself, i’m also gay. to tell you the truth to be honest i was just like Marco in school (in middle school) I came out in 2001 at the age of 14, I love the show Degrassi, it’s awesome. Had my first love at 19, but now im focused on myself. Becoming an artist. Since in 2003, I watched Adamo on Degrassi. He has set the bar to a beginning that never ends. and his coming out publicly is very brave.

Hey im only 14 but i watch degrassi, i think he is so brave and im a boy and im gay but im afraid to come out, also in the town i live in everyone knows eachother and everyone is straight (or pretends to be). I just dont want the whole town laughing at me and there is no other boys that are gay.. if adamo ruggero reads this find my email and i want to talk to you about some stuff.

hey, good for him.it is really hard to come out of the closet in front of the whole world. I’m a girl im 14 but im bisexual. I recently came out with my true self. It was really diffucult. I’m glad he did the best thing and not deny who he was like i did. He was extremely brave.

im really glad that Adamo came out about his trueself. im not gay but i stand up for gay pride, and standing up for gay pride is really important to me in my life. it was really brave of him to tell everyone that he was gay. Adamo ruggiero is my hero, and he inspires me to help other gay people to come out and be proud of who they are.

Dear Adamo

So I was litterally told last night that you had come out of the closet. I don’t think anyone could ever understand to how happy I was to hear that. Everyone has always come to tell me I looked like you and acted like you but the only thing different between us two was that I really was gay
I came out when I was fourteen. It was difficult for the longest time but then I started watching your show and come to understand who I really was and am as a person. I wasn’t able to come out in such a manner as yourself, but my point was made to everyone that I was no longer playing the straight role in my community. I was out and proud. I just wanted to thank you. As much as life seemed to be a roller coaster in the past five years I wouldn’t trade a second in the world to change a thing. Thank you.

@Bobby: This is for bobby: I know that I’m not Adamo but I think I could help. That’s if you’d like help from me? I’m 15 and I barely started getting interested in Degrassi, which probably leads me to believe that you won’t accept my help… unless I tell you my story. Here it is: I’m 15 as I reviously said and I’m bisexual but more gay considering I like guys more than girls. Since I was in seventh or say 13 years old, maybe younger than that, I’ve like guys. It weirded me out and made me nervous at how others would feel about me. I thought no one would accept me for who I was or was becoming. Now I know because I met a friend, best friend, who really helped me along the way. I never told her I was gay until she introduced me to one of her friends. The day that happened I instantly fell in love with the guy and quickly told her I was gay and how I felt. She was so gitty and joyful cause she knew somehow about the secret I tried to hide. After a year I met him again but never told anyone else about my sexuality. It bugged and hurt me. I really cared for him and so did he for me. I was going nuts, because I wanted to be with him without the fear of anyone else knowing about us. Then that’s when I drew the line. I texted all my friends, only cause we were all in seperate classrooms and would never have time to tell them. They all were surprised as I thought they would be but in a good way. Them and me have been close friends for a long while, everyone of them and non of them cared whether I was gay, straight, or a transvestite as they said which was kinda funny only because I was happy that they would still accept me as who I was. Ever since then me and the guy I was introduced to have been dating and we’re happy. I have only told my mom and cousin since than and am planning on telling others who are a part of my familly. Just waiting for the right time.

Anyways… As I said I would like to help because I know what your going through. Still am myself. This is just in case you haven’t come out about your sexuality yet. Adamo you are sooo cute. I’m a girl I love degrassi its like a totally awesome show. You are like sooo cool. Youre like cute as heck. I hope youre going to be in more Degrassi episodes. I know someone who is gay and that person gets teased because of it well this is middle school. I would like to help that person but I dont know how. Adamo is amazingly gorgeous! I seriously have a thing for gay guys which kinda sucks :) haha…but it’s great that he came out and was true to himself! Marco is such an inspiration and I love watching him on Degrassi!!!! <3

I actually grew up watching Digrassi. Marco was always my favorite character and I simply fell in love with the person that he was and the friends that supported him and I vividly remember when Marco came out to Spinner. I felt kind of bad, but Spin took it well in the long run. Anyway, I guess you could say that my first gay crush was on Adamo/Marco. That’s 14 year old hormones for you I suppose. Not only did I enjoy the show, but I felt that I could kind of relate to someone. I’m from Maine, so I grew up with a bunch of straight people and all I could remember from middle school was that “gay=bad”. When I finally came out when I was 15-16 (2008) I felt like I was free in a lot of ways. I felt kind of empowered to be the only openly gay guy in my entire school district. I wear my rainbow bracelets everyday : ) But coming out to my dad was a big deal because I’m his only son AND the only boy in my family with my last name. But, now I’m out to everyone and I’m happy. Anyway. Thank you Adamo. I can honestly say, you helped me accept my sexuality and you helped me come out through Marco. Thanks. A LOT. And I will always be a fan of yours.

I’v watched Adamo go from compleatly in the closet to out loud and proud he helped me come out my self, i am a gay 14 year old and im just glad there are gay role models like adamo for young homo sexuals like my self to look up to. Marco has always been my favorite character in degrassi and by far the cutest, i kinda fell in love with him for a period of time but i fell in love with his life story more. If not for Marco/Adamo i do not think i would have had the courage to come out, thank god i was blessed enough to have friends that support me and accept my sexuality and inspirations like Adamo

@Bobby: bobby, i really dont think that the whole town would be laughing at you. i’m a 17yr old smalltown gal who just recently came out bisexual…just about everyone in my town knows now but they are verry understanding..actually i found out that most of my friends were either bi or gay or lez. its not as bad as you think. give ppl a chance..they’re a lot more understanding than you think..
