Lutherans to Ordain Married Gay Man

Heed My Wrath – Despite stern warnings from a Canadian bishop, a southern Ontario Lutheran church stuck up their middle finger and will take the move of ordaining a married gay man.

Pastor Dawn Hutchings says about 50 clergy from across the country will celebrate the ordination of Lionel Ketola this Friday in Newmarket, Ont.

Hutchings says the ordination is the first of its kind for a Canadian Lutheran church.

Still, Bishop Michael Pryse has warned that the ordination is a “serious breach” and could do “irreparable damage” to the fabric of the national church body.

Parent Lutheran bodies in both the U.S. and Canada require that ministers who identify as gay remain celibate.

But last summer, an assembly of Evangelical Lutherans in the U.S. asked its bishops not to fire gay and lesbian ministers who violate the rule.
