Dennis Quaid and wife settles for $750k, Hospital overdose babies
by Trey C. on December 16, 2008
Hollywood star Dennis Quaid has reached a $750,000 settlement with the hospital where his newborn twins were given a near-fatal overdose. Quaid has told how he and wife Kimberly had the “scariest, most frightening day” when their infants were mistakenly given a massive overdose of the blood-thinner Heparin.
“It was a life-and-death situation,” he insists of twins Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace in November 2007.
Now court papers show how the Quaids have reached a $750,000 settlement with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The settlement allows Cedars-Sinai to admit no wrongdoing – and also leaves an opening for the Quaids to seek damages on behalf of their children, with the settlement being for the parents’ damages. The documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday show that the Quaids initially sued drug maker Baxter Healthcare Corp. in Illinois over the drug’s packaging, but that that case has been dismissed. The petition filed Monday indicates Baxter may also sue Cedars-Sinai, which allegedly administered too much Heparin to several patients in November 2007, including the Quaids’ twins.
