The official opening of Rio Carnival may be three days off, but Beyonce and Alicia Keys got the party started early as they took to the streets to film a new music video.

A massive crew of cameraman, lighting techs, and backup dancers took to the streets in a sparkling display that some say will rival the actual festivities of Rio Carnival. Beyonce can be seen shaking on a disused bus, while Alicia Keys had all eyes on her while they taped her rooftop scene.

The pair are currently filming a clip for their duet ‘Put It In A Love Song,’ which features on Alicia’s recently released album, The Element Of Freedom.

Alicia recently told MTV, “Her and I together was like re-united sisters. Most people get in the studio and don’t get a chance to really collaborate but we were in one room having a ball. ‘The energy was incredible.”

Alicia also said she’s keen for more collaborations.

UPDATE: British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead after taking his own life. The 40-year-old committed suicide just days after the death of his mother, Joyce, last week. [Source]

Fashion designer Alexander McQueen has died, his publicist says. His office confirmed to the BBC that Mr McQueen, 40, was discovered at his London home this morning.

Paramedics called to the Mayfair property pronounced him dead at the scene. Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.

A statement said his family were “devastated” at the “tragic news”, and added that they shared “a sense of shock and grief”.

A former British Designer of the Year winner, London-born Mr McQueen started his career as an apprentice in Savile Row, where he learned how to make jackets at Gieves and Hawkes.

Born in the East End of London, the son of a taxi driver, McQueen started making dresses for his three sisters at a young age and announced his intention of becoming a fashion designer. He said that one of his earliest memories was from around the age of 3 when he drew a picture of a dress on a piece of bare wall which had been exposed by peeling wallpaper in the council house where his family lived. McQueen jokingly called it his first design sketch.

Career

McQueen left Rokeby School at 16, landing himself an apprenticeship with Savile Row tailors Anderson & Sheppard, then working for Gieves & Hawkes and the famous theatrical costumiers Angels and Bermans. Whilst on Savile Row, McQueen’s clients included Mikhail Gorbachev and Charles, Prince of Wales. At the age of 20, he spent a period of time working for Koji Tatsuno before travelling to Milan, Italy and working for Romeo Gigli.

McQueen returned to London in 1994 and applied to London’s most prestigious fashion school, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design to work as a pattern cutter tutor. Due to the strength of his portfolio he was persuaded by the Head of the Masters course to enrol on the course as a student. He received his Masters degree in Fashion design and famously, his graduation collection was bought in its entirety by influential fashion stylist Isabella Blow, who was said to have persuaded McQueen to change his name from Lee to Alexander (his middle name) when he subsequently launched his fashion career.

Design history

Alexander McQueen’s early runway collections developed his reputation for controversy and shock tactics (earning the title “l’enfant terrible” and “the hooligan of English fashion”), with trousers aptly named “bumsters”, and a collection entitled “Highland Rape”. McQueen was known for his lavish, unconventional runway shows, such as a recreation of a shipwreck for his spring 2003 collection, spring 2005’s human chess game and his fall 2006 show, Widows of Culloden, which featured a life-sized hologram of supermodel Kate Moss, dressed in yards of rippling fabric.

Givenchy appointment

The president of LVMH, Bernard Arnault caused a stir when he instated McQueen as head designer at Givenchy in 1996, succeeding John Galliano. Upon arrival at Givenchy, McQueen insulted the founder by calling him ‘irrelevant’. Thus, his first couture collection with Givenchy was unsuccessful, with even McQueen telling Vogue in October 1997 that the collection was “crap”. McQueen toned down his act at Givenchy, but continued to indulge his rebellious streak, causing controversy in Autumn 1998 with a show which included car-robots spraying paint over white cotton dresses, and double amputee model Aimee Mullins striding down the catwalk on intricately carved wooden legs. McQueen stayed with Givenchy until March 2001, when the contract he said was “constraining his creativity” was ended.

Accomplishments

Some of Alexander McQueen’s accomplishments included being one of the youngest designers to achieve the title “British Designer of the Year”, which he won four times between 1996 and 2003. He was also awarded the CBE, as well as being named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards. December 2000 saw a new partnership for McQueen with Gucci Group acquiring 51% of the company, and McQueen serving as Creative Director. Plans for expansion included the opening of stores in London, Milan, and New York, and the launch of his perfumes Kingdom, and more recently My Queen. In 2005, McQueen collaborated with Puma to create a special line of trainers for the shoe brand.

McQueen became the first designer to participate in MAC’s newest promotion: cosmetic releases created by fashion designers. The collection, McQueen, was released on 11 October 2007 and reflects the looks used on the Autumn/Winter McQueen catwalk. The inspiration for the collection was the Elizabeth Taylor movie Cleopatra, and thus the models sported intense blue, green, and teal eyes with strong black liner extended Egyptian-style. McQueen handpicked the makeup.

Company

By the end of 2007, Alexander McQueen had boutiques in New York, London, Los Angeles, Milan, and Las Vegas. Grammy winning trend setter Rihanna is one of the many famous celebrities that frequently wears Alexander McQueen, often seen wearing the pieces of clothing to events. Another is Lady GaGa, whose unique style often incorporates Alexander McQueen pieces in her music videos. As of 14 July 2008, the Alexander McQueen internet store has launched on the company website, allowing shoppers to purchase ready-to-wear and accessories online.

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper have united for a very important cause with MAC Cosmetics for The MAC AIDS Fund and the VIVA GLAM program, which raises funding for AIDS research.

The pair went on “Good Morning America” to raise awareness to encourage women about the importance of practicing safe sex. All funds from each VIVA GLAM purchase go directly towards helping women to fight AIDS.

Lady Gaga and Lauper were announced as the faces of MAC Comestics 2010 campaign back in November ‘09 at a private press party.

Run, don’t walk to buy Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi — each lipstick is $14, and 100% of the proceeds goes to the MAC AIDS Fund to support the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Chinese father says he chains his small son to a corner so he won’t be abducted, as his sister was, according to a report by ITN’s John Ray for CNN.

This is nothing gay or pop culture-related, but something that I thought might catch you’re interest. Child abduction has been on the rise in China, and a father took a small step to keep his son from the same fate as his sister. The CNN video can been seen after the jump.

Lady Gaga met the real Queen — Queen Elizabeth — following the Royal Variety Performance. What a shocker! I’m disappointed Lady Gaga didn’t wear the spark-bursting bra she had worn on the ‘Bad Romance’ video in front of the Queen. I wonder how that would have gone done.

The annual show features a wide range of artists from all aspects of popular entertainment and showbusiness. Miley Cyrus was also spotted watching the show from backstage.

We knew it, the world knew it, and Chelsea Handler definitely knew it. GLEE’s Chris Colfer dodged the media bullet with his recent out-and-in of the closet antics, which we assumed was forced upon him by Fox execs.

On last night’s airing of the ‘Chelsea Lately’ show, the monster that is Chelsea Handler decided to put an end to the gay rumors and invited Colfer to be a guest on the show. DUN DUN DUN!!!

‘New Moon’ left audiences across the nation with their jaws-dropped this past weekend as it made history as the 3rd biggest weekend opener ever, grossing an astounding $140.7 million at the box office.

Buff Bodies Blind ‘New Moon’

As successful and publicized as the movie was, it leaves me to wonder whether the success of ‘New Moon’ was due to the great story behind the series, or was it the bare-chested men that roamed the screen in 3/4th of the movie?

The second installment in the Twilight Saga manages to portray the love between Bella and Edward in a more artistic way. At first I, like other twilight watchers, had doubts about ‘New Moon.’

Towards opening night, I found myself unable to beat the hardcore crowd that caused theaters nationwide to sell out of tickets for the Friday midnight showing.

I joined the obsessive teenagers who decided to skip school on Friday to drool over Jacob’s (Taylor Lautner) incredibly new buff body. Little did I know ‘New Moon’ did have a plot after all. The way I saw it anyways.

While ‘New Moon’ left audiences acknowledging the apparent improvement over Twilight since the first scene, the theater experience was tainted by the hormonal teenagers that had an orgasm each time Edward or Jacob exposed their bare chests.

A girl sitting two rows behind me kept moaning each time Jacob showed off his jailbait guns.

Unfortunately, the audience was unable to see past the “perfection” of the characters, which they confuse for being traits of the actors, and are blind to appreciate the movie’s depiction of the beginning stages of love and the obstacles lovers must face in order to find happiness.

If you’ve read the books, you will appreciate their artistic connection with the movie.

For those who haven’t, it will be difficult to understand the desperation Bella and Edward faces as they keep their love alive.

Fans were extremely grateful that director Chris Weitz replaced Catherine Hardwicke.

The acting has improved by a long shot, although Kristen Stewart continues to make her sexual facial expressions each time she gets close to male testosterone.

Also, not to mention the fact that every time Edward speaks to Bella he sound like he’s having a constant erection.

In the end, society’s distortion that we must strive for perfection will hinder the audience’s ability to see past the beauty of the actors, shamefully leaving the artistic splendor of the film in a state of oblivion.

Not all the teeny boppers were body-obsessed that night though as Melvin Varughese tells me, “I think the twilight series is a different take on popular beliefs and it’s just something I enjoy.”

OUT magazine’s Alex Wilburn posted on their blog Popnography today a recap of a recent gay-themed episode of ‘Degrassi’ in which he remarks on the issues of coming out in high school for gay character Riley, who is the star football player for Degrassi High.

Wilburn notes, in relation to gay society today, that ” we assume gay teens are naturally accepting,” eventually building up to the fact that in today’s LGBT society gays are hating their own kind more than ever. Who’s more straight? Who’s more gay? Can someone be more-or-less gay?

He then calls into action and ask that gays “stop dividing into groups or using terms like ‘gayface’” in which he referenced Popwired’s post of a new kid on Gossip Girl that we thought looked gay.

Did we make a slip-up by using the term “gay face” instead of identifying the character by his real name or some other snarky term? Sure, we did. But does Popwired saying “Gay face” really go against the gay agenda and destroy future hopes of gays getting along together? Not at all, that’s just how we do stuff here — randomly!

For us to say “gay face”, it just merely means that they’re handsome and well moisturized.

The lingerie retailer inducted five new girls into their “Angels” rank. They were Emanuela de Paula, Chanel Iman, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Lindsay Ellingson and Candice Swanepoel.

Klum, who normally wears the most elaborate outfits, only appeared once, so it was former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover girl Marissa Miller who had the honor of wearing a $3 million, diamond-encrusted bra.

The show took place at the New York National Guard Armory at Lexington Avenue and 25th Street. Musical performance was by the Black Eyed Peas.

America’s favorite Wednesday evening queer Chris Colfer may have made a slip-up regarding his sexual orientation in a recent interview with Advocate magazine causing Fox executives to scramble to their closets, pulling Colfer by his Prada bag in the closet with them.

Chris Colfer plays Kurt Hummel on the hilarious Fox dramedy “GLEE”.

You know it, I know it, there is not a doubt in our mind that Colfer is gay in real-life. In fact, he’s so gay that he has decided to open up to the press about it, accidentally of course.

Step 1, talk to America’s gayest magazine, the Advocate.

Fox executives freaked out and decided to blow the whistle after the magazine asked Colfer if he was “out” during his high school years, in which Colfer responded “Oh, no. People are killed in my hometown for that!”

“Glee” star Chris Colfer’s slip of the lip during a recent interview sent show execs into a panic.

The 19-year-old actor… seemed to accidentally reveal his own sexual orientation while talking about the show in an interview.

When Chris was asked if he was “out” during his own high school years, he replied: “Oh, no. People are killed in my hometown for that!”

And while the disclosure – to “The Advocate,” a gay magazine – was no big deal for Chris, who was raised in Clovis, Calif., it was HUGE for studio execs.

“Fox wasn’t pleased,” an insider told The Enquirer. “They’re very protective of their young stars. And while the studio is pro-gay, they didn’t want Chris stamped with a ‘gay actor’ label so early in his career.

“They want him to be known simply as an ‘actor.’”

A rep from the studio asked the magazine to remove that part of the interview from the Advocate.com web site.

“The gay thing is not an issue for Chris at all,” the insider maintained.

“He hopes his character is an inspiration for gay kids everywhere. But both he and the studio want his personal life to stay under wraps.”

The National Enquirer reports that Fox officials were so freaked out that they asked The Advocate to remove from their website any reference to Colfer being gay during the interview.

The Advocate still has some reference to Colfer being gay on their website that wasn’t removed.

So the question now is, why does Fox think Colfer coming out in real-life will ruin his career?

We know Colfer is gay, who is Fox kidding by forcing the boy back into the closet? In a interview that followed by USA Today, the interviewer asked a similar question about his sexuality and Colfer’s comment almost cemented that Fox had a little pep talked with Colfer about only being gay-for-pay.

“I try to keep up a mystery. As much as I give away of my personal life, the less people will believe me as other characters. I try to be private about it. It is what it is” Colfer said.

UPDATE: Popwired sent an email to The Advocate requesting a statement on the post and Editor-in-Chief Jon Barrett of The Advocate had this to tell us:

I can tell you that the stories on the blogs and in the tabloids aren’t correct. Fox reps never insisted that we remove anything from the story. They did contact me when the piece went up–but there was never any insisting or demanding on their part, and I left the conversation thinking they understood why we left the story on the site as it is.

Levi Johnston, baby-daddy of Sarah Palin’s daughter and now the newly Playgirl model, turned down a Thanksgiving dinner invitation to the house of Palin, PopWired has learned.

In an interview in an upcoming issue of Playgirl magazine, Johnston said Palin was “full of it”, referring to her televised invitation to a Thanksgiving dinner on Oprah, which is scheduled to air today.

“You could tell by her laugh she was full of it,” Johnston said.

It was “a nice gesture, but she didn’t mean it” and if he went it’d be “awkward.”

In the meanwhile, Johnston was also busy in New York City as Playgirl finally called a wrap on their three-day photoshoot.

The shoot featured Johnston in 3 different scenarios accentuating his natural “athletic qualities, movie star looks and natural sexiness,” Playgirl spokesman Nardicio said.

“He expressed some concern that he wasnt in as good shape as he was a few weeks ago, due to all his traveling” states Nardicio, “but we found him to be in great shape, playful, and on the second day particularly, really fun.”

The locations of the shoot were the Cooper Square Hotel, photographer Greg Weiner’s studio in the East Village and Eagle’s Nest studios on West 30th street.

As to just how much Johnston showed during the shoot, what exact specifics of the shoot are, Playgirl subscribers are going to have to wait for the late November release of the pics on Playgirl.com.

Levi Johnston does gay-talk, dubbed a “twunk”

Nardicio and Johnston developed somewhat of a rapport, and the openly gay promoter and Playgirl Marketing guy states: “we were talking in the greenroom about gay categories: bear, cubs and Levi asked what his type would be-we decided a twink, but older, so we anointed him a ‘twunk’.”

Starting Monday November 16th, Entertainment Tonight will be showing background footage from the shoot, debuting pics from the shoot, and interviews with Johnston, Tank Jones (Johnston’s manager) Nardicio, and Levi’s workout leading up to the shoot.

Okay normally I would gag at the idea of seeing Lance Bass shirtless, but these new set of photos sorta-kinda-not-really changed my mind!

Palin’s baby-daddy Levi Johnston arrived in New York City Monday to prep for his nude shoot with Playgirl magazine.

After two weeks of intense negotiations, Playgirl.com and Levi Johnston have entered an agreement for Levi Johnston to pose nude for Playgirl and Playgirl.com in New York City, Playgirl spokesperson Daniel Nardicio announced November 5.

The turn is a new direction for Playgirl. The magazine folded in November along with many other print publications, and in August Playgirl brought on Nardicio to lend direction and scout models. His first model attempt was Mr. Johnston, and the rest has been described as a “media frenzy.”

Rumors flew around the internet last week after Page Six published a blurp about Johnston speaking to the magazine about the size of his penis, Nardicio however waves that off as “rubbish.”

“We’ve never spoken to Levi about the size of his penis and trust me, we have no concerns as to whether it’s big enough and if we did, we wouldn’t be telling Page Six about it,” Nardicio said.

The shoot is scheduled for Nov 13, 14, and 15. Location is not being disclosed for obvious reason. If you see a floppy Alaskan flounder anywhere in NYC be sure to shoot me an email with pics!

Students — and studs — at the University of Texas at Arlington stripped it off Friday for their annual traditional Oozeball Tournament.

Don’t get your pickle all in a dilly just yet, it was a co-ed competition. Check out the photos after the jump and check out the entire set here. I love how it was only the guys that wrestled and slap mud on each other, not that I’m complaining.

Oozeball is a yearly fundraising tradition for the Student Alumni Association, where students play volleyball in artificial mud pits.

Scott’s acting/modeling career really started to take off his senior year of college after he entered and won the Men’s Health “Iron Abs” contest in November 2007. He then began making a series of personal appearances and began traveling to New York City for castings and other events, and the more he became acquainted with the city, the more his interest in becoming a professional actor grew.

In December 2007, Scott sent his audition tape into The Real World: Brooklyn and was selected from a pool of approximately 50,000 to 70,000 applicants. He moved into the Real World house six months later and, now that filming is over, has decided to stay in Manhattan.

He spends his days going to castings, the gym, and updating his fitness website, www.scotthermanfitness.com. However, this dynamo can never sit still for too long. Scott is now part owner of the talent management company TETM (Third Eye Talent Management), and has found an untapped skill in producing as well.

US Swimmer and Beijing relay gold medalist Ricky Berens tore the back of his swimsuit in a qualifying heat of the 4×100m relay freestyle on Sunday during the World Swimming Championships in Rome. Shortly before stepping up to the starting block, the University of Texas senior leaned down to stretch and his suit tore.

“I kind of freaked out for just a second,” Berens said. “I felt like [the hole] was almost down to my knees. I felt like I was putting on a pretty good show.”

He did. And the US qualified for finals and won. And boy, what a show!

Now here’s an interesting group I’ve never heard of, but is interestingly fond of them because they are just too adorable! JLS, aka Jack the Lad Swing — what a name — wearing ‘Just been interviewed by Chris Moyles’ T Shirt was photographed as they left the BBC Radio One studio. The finalist from X Factor boyband were promoting their debut single ‘Beat Again’ on Chris Moyles Breakfast Show.

Jack the Lad Swing are a British boyband, who were runners-up in the fifth series of ITV reality talent show The X Factor in 2008, coming second to Alexandra Burke. The group consists of Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Jonathan “JB” Gill, and Oritsé Williams.

Following their success on The X Factor, JLS signed to Epic Records, and won a support slot on Lemar’s 2009 Spring tour. Ne-Yo also reportedly expressed interest in support from the band for his 2009 UK Summer tour.

Popular actor and singer Terrell Carter is the latest of two black celebrities that has been outed within the last two week, according to a story ran by Rod 2.0.

Apparently Carter’s ex-boyfriend, Alex Cortez, went on a little rampage after their separation and started blasting their intimate photos on the internet. On Cortez’s twitter account he stated, “Hell yeah i’m angry!…there are fucked up ppl out there no matter how nice they seem to be & it’s their fault, ppl they harm are bitter!”

Carter is known for his roles in Tyler Perry’s ‘Madea’ series.

Our friends over at International Jock flew some British stud over, snapped some pics of him in his undies — wet — for their future promos and also sent ‘em to us so that all you guys can go gaga over it. Photographer and International Jock co-founder, John Sievers, also conducted an interview with the 20-year-old model which you can check out after the jump.

What do you think: stud or stud?

John Sievers had this to say about working with Harry:
This is the first photo shoot that Harry’s done since arriving in the USA a little over two weeks ago and it was also his first mens underwear shoot. He was, understandably, a little nervous at first but he did a wonderful job and I’m very pleased with the results. Harry has great looks, an engaging and lively personality and a lovely English accent. He was a very good sport about everything I asked him to do, even though his agent thought he might be reluctant to shoot the bedroom scenes. The only thing he declined to wear was a jockstrap by itself out in the garden.

We did the shoot at a private garden cottage up in the Hollywood Hills and shot some Calvin Klein, DKNY and Speedo
swimwear. The shots I took of Harry in the shower were particularly fun to do! In the nine years I’ve been working with models here at International Jock, he’s undoubtedly one of the best and I’m sure he has a big career ahead of him.

After the shoot, we sat down for a quick interview:

Harry, I’ve really enjoyed working with you on the two shoots we’ve done. But I know that you’d never done any underwear or swimwear modeling before. What was it like for you?

Well, it seemed a bit weird at first. Made me a little nervous. But I’m got used to the idea and it was actually quite a good time. Wearing the briefer, skimpy items was a bit odd but no matter, the pay was great.

What kind of underwear do you usually wear?
I almost always wear boxer briefs.

Do you wear anything to bed? Do you sleep in the nude or wear pajamas or what?
Most often I wear a pair of my boxer briefs and a t-shirt when I sleep.

And what about for swimming or a day at the beach. What do you wear?
I like to wear board shorts. I’m excited to be in L.A. because I’m eager to try my hand at surfing again – I surfed a bit in Spain when I lived there and it was really fun.

How do you feel about the idea that there will be all these photos of you wearing underwear on the internet and men and women will be lusting after you?
Well, again, it seems a bit weird but I’m Ok with it. When you’re a model it’s part of the job.

How old are you and where did you grow up?
I’m 20 years old and will be 21 in August. I was born in Bath, England and went to school there for a while. Then my family moved to Alicante, Spain where I lived for nine years. Then I moved back to England to be with my girlfriend in London. She was a dancer and it was through her that I met a modeling agent in London and got my start.

Did you learn to speak Spanish?
Oh yes, I speak it fluently – it should help me a lot living here in Los Angeles

What kind of work did you do before you started modeling?
I was in construction and did air conditioning work, plumbing and general construction of all kinds. It was hard work and I did it seven days a week for quite a while.

How do you like being a model compared to working in construction?
What can I say – it is just so different.

You’ve got an incredible body. How do you stay in shape – do you work out or play sports?
My body looks pretty good just naturally I suppose. I really don’t go to the gym that much – maybe two or three times a week. When I was a schoolboy I played football and rugby, but prefer action sports. I love motocross and had my own bike and raced competitively when I was a teenager.

Wasn’t that dangerous?
Yeah. It seems like I spent half my life in hospital! (laughs) I had quite a few crash ups. Broke my leg and hip, cracked my skull once, broke some ribs and got pretty banged up. I do like to live life on the edge though. I have that need for speed – jet skiing, motocross, anything fast. I also like shooting.

Hunting or target shooting?
Mainly target shooting. I’ve only been in Los Angeles for a little over a week and have already found a range and have gone shooting. It’s brilliant.

What about your diet, do you eat anything special to keep your body in shape?
I like the usual stuff, meat and salads, spinach, nothing out of the ordinary. I eat a lot too. I suppose I am a high-energy person and burn a lot of calories.

How long do you plan to stay in the States?
Well, I have a return ticket back to the UK the first week of July, but I love it here and the modeling career seems to be going well so my agent wants me to stay on. I probably will stay for awhile – not sure how long – maybe a year or two if I get on well.

What is most surprising to you about L.A.? How is it different that what you expected?
No roundabouts, so many fast food places and driving on the right side of the road is more of a challenge than I had expected.

What about your family – tell me about them?
My parents are both very cool. I have a brother who’s two years older than I am. We used to fight a lot when we were young, but we get along famously now. He’s at University now.

What about your ethnic makeup? Are you totally British or a mixture of something else?
I’m 100% English. My family has lived in Bath England for as far back as anyone can remember. But I really preferred the lifestyle in Spain to that in England. The weather is so much better and it’s much more laid back. And, so far, I’m enjoying L.A. better than England too.

What happened to your girlfriend?
We broke up in England about a month ago. It was really painful after four years with her, but it was because of that change that I guess I got motivated to make a move and come here to L.A. and so far it’s been brilliant.

So you’re single and available?
Yes! (laughs)

Fred Phelps, Westboro Baptist Church, “God hates fags” – all terms that warm my heart and make me one happy dyke.

Confused much?  Don’t be.  We gays and hetero-allies should all line up to give Fred Phelps a big faggotty kiss right on the mouth.  Who else but Phelps would allow himself to be such a public figure famous for his ignorance and hatred just to make the LGBT community look good?  Aw shucks, Freddie.  At the thought of how grateful I am to you, I just blushed a little.

It’s true.  Fred Phelps may just be a savior (pun intended) to the gays.  Phelps’s extremely public congregation of  Westboro Baptist Church has become famous for selfless acts such as picketing military funerals and teaching their children the word “fag” before they can even wear big girl/big boy panties.  These congregation members are truly willing to present themselves as the scum of the earth just to serve as a mirror to those individuals in the heterosexual community who have not exactly been accepting of the homosexual lifestyle.

This metaphorical mirror, that has been turned in the direction of conservatives and such, is quite possibly beginning to reveal to them that the obvious hatred of the WBC might not be so different from their own.  Besides, I can only imagine how un-fabulous that mirror is.  It’s not cute unless the gays designed it.

In addition to the proverbial un-fabulous mirror, Mr. Phelps has built a career on extreme negativity towards countless groups.  This has in turn caused some to view the homosexual community as a group that has historically been oppressed, but should be considered an equal part of society.  Phelps and his Christian-bots have been accused of being anti-Ireland, anti-Catholicism, anti-Swedish, anti-Semitic, and now I’m tired of typing the prefix “anti”, but you get the picture.  Oh, and did I mention that Phelps himself could be referred to as anti-his own children?

Yes, his two sons Mark and Nate have accused him of abusive behavior such as beating the two with a leather strap.

Did someone say “leather strap”?  Is it possible that old man Phelps is a leather daddy?

In sum, Fred Phelps has established a reputation as a disrespectful, extremely hateful, negative, irreverent, child-abusing bigot.  Good thing I’m not God because I would be extremely insulted at the fact that he was doing all this for my glory.  On the flip side, I feel extremely flattered that he would put me on his hit list.  In some twisted way, he is my ally and deserves my thanks for being such a stark raving idiot.  Keep on doing your thing, Freddie.  You just keep making me look better and better.

Late as always — Aside from experiencing the worst camping trip and boat ride of my life, I must say Austin, Texas has some pretty fine guys.

During Memorial Day weekend my friends and I made a drive down to Austin, Texas because we had nothing to do and my boyfriend was in Italy at the time.

Fortunately, the weekend we were there was also a Splash weekend. Basically all the gay clubs and queer social groups rent out boats and have a massive party on Hippie Hollow (nude beach) – minus the orgy. I was so excited to be on my first nude beach, but as luck would have it all the penises that us gays would rather see was covered up in swim trunks and the dudes that were nude either had three stomachs on them or were 40 years and older.

Nonetheless, I snapped some pics of the hotties at Splash. Next party is during Labor Day weekend!

Taylor Lautner ruled the stage Sunday evening — that is, for the muscle worshipers — during the opening of the 2009 ‘MTV Movie Awards.’ The sexy wolf-man alongside cast mates premiered the first official trailer for Twilight’s ‘New Moon’ in which a shirtless scene of Lautner (Jacob) brought roars of climax amongst the audience.

The “2009 MTV Movie Awards” proved to be a comedy-filled night as host Andy Samberg welcomed a variety of his celebrity friends including Justin Timberlake and Will Ferrell to collaborate on ingenious short films and controversial and unexpected moments. This year, viewers truly took matters into their own hands, led by fans of Twilight, who banded together throughout the voting period to put their favorite film into its rightful place in Movie Awards history. The film took home five golden popcorn statues and received a huge majority of the record breaking votes submitted this year online and via text message.

Twilight dominated the ceremony, taking home the top honors for “Best Movie” at the conclusion of the night. Robert Pattinson won three statues for “Breakthrough Performance Male,” “Best Kiss” with co-star Kristen Stewart and “Best Fight” with Cam Gigandet.

Hell, fire, and brimstone! “All sinners are going to hell!” “Homosexuals are an abomination and will burn for it!” This was the message that the students at Stephen F. Austin State University woke up to. Poptrends editor Sean K. wandered across the man preaching his hate message Tuesday afternoon and didn’t really think much of it, that was until the man looked over his way and pointed out proclaiming “that homosexual is going to burn in hell!” Apparently, this was the message that the students at SFA were hearing all day.

The preacher, who didn’t give up his real name, had a permit from the university to use his right of free speech, however, university officials did not expect what he was going to use his free speech for. The university’s police department (UPD) has been placed with the preacher to make sure he doesn’t harm the students. After speaking with a police officer, Sean found that the officers are more on the student’s side even though they have to be impartial.

The preacher and his associate do not belong to any one church so they travel to different locations trying to spread the word of Jesus, however, none of the students have been informed rather than offended from the message that he had.

“Buddists do not believe in Jesus so they are going to burn in hell!”

“You sorority girls are going to hell for having pre-marital sex and the drink!”

These were some of the messages he had to give the students.

University officials have tried everything they can think of to remove the man from campus but he is standing in the area that was established solely for free speech. He has a permit to stay on campus until 5 o’ clock then he will be removed from the campus.

Interrupting a phone call with renowned therapist Dr. Jenn Berman, we scored a one-on-one interview with the self-proclaimed “Hot Mess,” Amber Deylon, from Oxygen’s Pretty Wicked.

This new hit reality show fools 10 young women into thinking they are competing to become Hollywood’s next IT girl, and after the girls flaunt about why they are the best for the position, it is revealed they are there instead to improve their “wicked” ways with personality makeovers.

“Pretty Wicked taught me a lot about who I was and who I want to become,” Amber says, “and with the help of Dr. Jenn and the other girls, I’m more aware of others and their feelings.”

If you missed last night’s episode, Amber openly tells her roommates that she is bisexual, feeling she is placed on the show because of numerous sugar-mamas and sugar-daddies. Classy thing to admit, I must say.

Feeling a definite shock-factor from the other girls, Amber proclaims her sexual orientation is not important.

“I don’t feel the need to say hi, my name is Amber, I’m 23, and bisexual… You just don’t do that.”

Although she’s been open about her sexuality the majority of her life, broadcasting it on national television has sky-rocketed Amber into the public eye, earning fan mail from all over the country asking her for advice on how to come out to friends and family.

“I don’t want to be defined by my sexuality…I want to be a leader. A voice.”

By getting her name out there, Amber hopes to break down all stereotypes that are ignorantly placed on the GLBT community.

“Now that I am out to my television audience, I want to continue what I have always done which is speaking up for gay rights, the reversal of Proposition 8, and the acceptance of gays,” Amber said. “I want to help our community so that the next generation can live peacefully, however they wish, with whomever they wish.”

Amber is an aspiring television host with influences like Ellen and Ryan Seacrest. Also, with her company ADD Productions, Amber is working on several projects aimed specifically towards the GLBT community. You’re sure to see more of Amber D in the near future.

Pretty Wicked airs every Tuesday night 10/9 CST on Oxygen.

The media war is brewing as ‘Sordid Lives’ writer Del Shores goes public with his financial crisis and attacks the LOGO television network for all their wrongdoing. Shores announced Monday to his facebook fan club that the production of Season 2 of ‘Sordid Lives: The Series’ will be at a standstill because LOGO failed to pay.

Fans and supporters of ‘Sordid Lives’ reacted negatively to the news and began a boycott of LOGO. A facebook group has reportedly been set-up with email addresses — some personal — of the executives in charge at LOGO, asking supporters to persuade the network to pay up so that Shores can continue on with Season 2.

Shores published a letter Tuesday which goes into details about his relationship with LOGO and his financial situation. Shores says his home has gone into foreclosure and the producers still refused to pay his residuals.

Shores credits his husband Jason Dottley (pictured, far left) for getting him through a difficult period: “I live daily with gratitude. Jason told me it would be okay and suggest that I start teaching and to get back on stage to tell my stories. I did and it saved me.”

We obtained the letter which reads:

I’m tired of being told to be silent. You all deserve to know the truth about why “Sordid Lives: The Series” is not going forward into Season 2.

First of all, I want you all to know that this has been an amazing experience for me, for the cast. We love each other, we love working together. AND WE LOVE OUR FANS.

When the show premiered July 23rd, according to the executives and marketing team at LOGO, “SLTS” was in a league of its own. We were told that it was off the charts for them. That it was 20 times bigger than any show they had ever aired. I brought them stars and beloved characters and they got mainstream press — TV Guide, People Magazine, Regis & Kelly, Conan, Today Show (3 times), New York Times, Star, LA Times, Associated Press…. RAVE REVIEWS across the board! Whoopi Goldberg even called me personally and told me that she wanted me to write her into Season 2. I did!

Viewers were changing their cable companies (Direct TV, you owe me money!) LOGO was in more households than ever. Not just gay. We had crossed over! We were flying high and destined to many seasons to come! I took a big risk and it paid off.

See, usually, when you bring a network a hit, you are rewarded! And we were. LOGO ordered the 2nd season 2 weeks after we premiered. BUT, LOGO doesn’t own the show. Our production company owns the series. In fact, there are three financial partners. LOGO, our production company and IMG International, who is our foreign distributor. LOGO ordered the show CONTINGENT on the other partners also ordering the show. IMG did not. They were still selling the show — and still are. They seem to be doing very well — France, Germany, Austria, Israel, Canada, Sweden and more in the wings — so they could still come in.

But a bigger problem arose. The 12 episodes have now aired 262 times collectively (in America alone). Each time SLTS airs, the writer, director and actors are to receive compensation — residuals. The production company is the signatory with all the Guilds, meaning they have agreed to pay the residuals. To this date, WE HAVE BEEN PAID NOTHING! I wrote and directed all twelve episodes and am personally owed hundreds of thousands of dollars. I have been paid nothing! I took a huge pay cut to do this show. I made less money in four years working on SLTS than I made in one season on “Queer As Folk”. The actors, who worked for minimums or slightly above, have also BEEN PAID NOTHING. The Guilds have stepped in, but these claims takes months.

Actors have lost health insurance and okay, now I’m going to really get honest and bare all. I worked exclusively on “Sordid Lives: The Series” for over four years. I was contractually bound to the show and turned down many opportunities — because I was doing what I loved — writing, creating, directing my own show, with amazing creative control (thank you LOGO). It was my choice and my extreme pleasure. But I took a hit. A big hit. It was a gamble. A risk. I thought I had won.

In January, our home went into foreclosure — and yes, the producers knew about my financial situation — still refused to pay me my residuals which would have saved the house and a lot of stress. I informed the executives of LOGO, hoping they would at least step in and pay me for the scripts of Season Two (which I had written). No response from the network.

Thank G-d for friends. Thank G-d for C.R., for N.A and R.A, for B.B. For Jason’s amazing family, for my kids, my ex-wife — and for the support of you, my friends and fans. You have no idea how much strength you gave me… make that — give me.

It was a crazy time. It still is.

But you know, I learned so much. I learned that things are things — and health, family, friends, and my adoring fans, are important. I am loved and I’ve had a good ride. I’m lucky and I am BLESSED.

I live daily with gratitude. Jason told me it would be okay and suggest that I start teaching and to get back on stage to tell my stories. I did and it saved me.

Yet, I was still fighting for “Sordid Lives: The Series”. I even tried to buy the show back from the producer — knowing, I could put together the money.

But negotiations came to a screeching stop. The price was too high. We reached an impasse — and now, I have a glimmer of hope — but yes, it has faded.

And as much as I love my friends at LOGO, it did sting when they picked up a second run (reruns) of “The Sarah Silverman Program” for more money per episode than they paid for SLTS. That money could have saved our show. And no disrespect to Ms. Silverman. I LOVE her show, but that’s not the point. My interpretation — “Sordid Lives: The Series” was just simply not that important for LOGO to save.

So, I must move on. I have other stories to tell. I want to see “Southern Baptist Sissies” on the big screen. I know the effect of the play. The healing. The salvation. {Anybody with a couple of mil want to make a difference, be a movie producer? :-) } I have other plays in me, other TV shows. Caroline Rhea, Leslie Jordan and I will bring our “A-Sordid Affair Comedy Tour” to you very soon. It’s all good.

But I do have more “Sordid Lives” in me… the 2nd season was written before it all went down. I own the stage rights and the publishing — so someday, someway, you’ll know how Noleta fares in the looney bin, where Brother Boy winds up… what happens to Ty and Jacob, to Latrelle, Wilson and Tomeka. You’ll know if Sissy gets out of jail. And who set the fire at Bubba’s? And how dear LaVonda works her magic on the masses! And how “Juanita” has at least has one clear moment.

I love you all — and if I get in trouble — I better have some lawyer fan (hopefully really cute) who will save my ass.

And as my Mama Merck used to say — “You can’t get blood from a turnip.”

And yes, as Sissy says, “It’ll all turn out…”

And as the Bible says, “The truth will set you free!”

Del Shores

Producer and writer Del Shores announced Monday that the rumored production for Season 2 of popular LOGO tv show, ‘Sordid Lives: The Series’ will not be going any further until situations are straighten out. In a facebook message to his fans he said:

Friends: I fought a good, hard fight, but at this time, there will be no Season 2 of “Sordid Lives: The Series” and I have no answer about Season 1 DVD. It is all a big f***ing mess that I can’t discuss at this time, but someday, you will know everything. I will continue to write and hopefully entertain you. I appreciate your loyalty and support. The future of ‘Sordid Lives’ came under speculation as rumors grew regarding the alleged financial trouble of the LOGO network and the delayed production of its season two.

Not everything is gloomy though. Jason Dottley, Del Shores’ husband, recently jumped into the music business and has gone on small tours around the gay bars in the U.S. Dottley will also be starring in an upcoming movie, ‘Tainted Love,’ which begins filming in late May.

21-year-old actor Zac Efron showed America that he can be funny Saturday on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

Given, we weren’t laughing our asses off the whole time, Efron didn’t do such a bad job. His starting monologue though did strike a nerve — mainly because I’m not one of the tweens he thanked! He said that the female tweens were the one who help him rise to success. Efron should know that if it wasn’t for gay boys like me buying life-sized posters of him, his career would be at a standstill.

Efron even poked a little bit of fun at his High School Musical roots, claiming the outside world has no choreography! GASP! The hunky actor sported a nice v-neck shirt that revealed his developing chest and thank god he didn’t over-do it with the make-up this time.

MTV has finally ‘unwrapped’ the reason behind all the fuss and WTFs about ‘GYT.’ It’s a new national campaign in partnership with the Kaiser Family Foundation, Planned Parenthood and others that advocates that you GYT: Get Yourself Tested.

According to stats, 1 in 2 sexually active Americans contracts an STD by age 25, which means if you haven’t been using a condom, your ass is due for one!

An extension of MTV and Kaiser’s Emmy and Peabody-winning “It’s Your (Sex) Life” partnership to promote responsible decision making about sex, GYT kicked off yesterday with a mix of guerilla promotions on-air, online and in the real world – which will continue unfolding throughout the month of April in recognition of National STD Awareness Month.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four teen girls in the U.S. have at least one common STD. Other estimates find that as many as one in two sexually-active young people will contract an STD by age 25 – and most won’t know it. In response to these facts, the GYT campaign informs young people about STDs and promotes testing and treatment as needed.

“The only way to know the status of your sexual health is to get tested. An all-star collective of pop culture personalities are carrying the GYT message far and wide, including Flo Rida, The All-American Rejects, Asher Roth, N.E.R.D., Santigold, Perez Hilton, Benji Madden and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, Big Boi, Keri Hilson, Soulja Boy, Joanna Garcia, Kid Sister, Chester French and Joy Bryant. These and other stars are appearing in a series of attention-getting on-air and online promotions on MTV and other MTV Network properties this month; blasting out GYT on Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms; wearing GYT on their chest and sleeves; and of course, going to get tested for STDs.

Actress Vanessa Hudgens arrived for an important meeting Wednesday which will determine if she will be sued for $5 million!

Hudgens arrived in Santa Monica at an office block for a mediation between her lawyers and former manager Johnny Vieira, who wants a cut of Vanessa’s fortune.

The lawsuit which was first filed back in August claims that Vieira and Hudgens entered a financial agreement back in May 2005 to launch her career and go 50/50 on her earnings. But after the enormous success of ‘High School Musical,’ Viera says she gave him the boot and although they came to a settlement agreement, Hudgens hasn’t been paying her way.

The starlet wore a cropped grey leather jacket, a white summer top, skinny blue jeans and white flat shoes to the meeting and carried a JJ Winters brown suede zip bag that goes for around $450.

Celebrated British photographer Dylan Rosser is at it again! Following the recent success of his first book, X-Posed, which featured a collection of sexy and stylish photographs of nude male models, and which was one of publisher Bruno Gmunder’s top sellers of 2008, Rosser comes back fiercer than ever with a Web site devoted to admirers of the nude male form, entitled The Male Form.

Unlike other Web sites devoted to nude male photography that mostly focus on penis count, The Male Form offers visitors and members alike the opportunity to appreciate quality photographs and stunning male models – while also giving members the opportunity of perusing the vast array of phalluses. And while it is anything but shy about male nudity, there’s a presentation about Dylan Rosser’s photography that adds a touch of class and character to the seemingly otherwise erotic pictures.

Get out your rhinestones and sharpen your scissors; it is time for the DIFFA designers to work their magic. In case you haven’t heard, Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) is preparing for the fashion event of the year, Utopia. May 2 will mark the 20th anniversary of DIFFA/Dallas’ collection of denim transformations.

DIFFA is a foundation devoted to funding the cure and prevention of HIV and AIDS. The foundation has been immortalized by its vast charity events that span each year. DIFFA/Dallas grants money to AIDS Service Organization in North Texas.

DIFFA/Dallas has obtained over $4 million for the foundation, making it the most triumphant chapter nationally. Through extensive networking, DIFFA/Dallas ensures that these funds are allocated appropriately to maximize its potential.

Embodying the idea of paradise, DIFFA/Dallas has announced the event’s title to be as such so that it mirrors “a perfect world, a Utopia, where HIV and AIDS does not exist,” according to Mark Stafford, co-chair of DIFFA/Dallas.

The Utopia media party this past Tuesday featured a sample of the many designs that are to walk the runway on May 2. With the spectrum of simple to avant-garde designs, the only commonality between each piece was the Arizona denim jacket given to each designer from JC Penney. From the painted wings of Carlos Nicholls to the Sex Pistols and pleats of Antonia Hubert, the Utopia media party showcased a plethora of designs.

With 8 years of carefully crafted jackets behind him, Izzy Zot is constantly inspired by the power of fabrics.

“It is the fabric that gives the ability to do what you want to do with it,” Zot said.

With the signature look of wings and red ribbons, Carlos Nicholls has returned to a 13th year with DIFFA/Dallas as his emotions control his brushstrokes thus making the theme of each jacket different from the last.

Having his hands soaked in the waters of fashion for over 20 years, Geoffrey Henning will present his 4th denim transformation. The motivation for Henning’s contribution to DIFFA/Dallas was to continually give back to the fashion community as well as giving the male perspective to how a woman should be dressed. He draws inspiration from the classic Lanvin designs of the 1950s with Siberian fox collars and original heavy lace.

Another influential designer of the evening was Robert Jenkins which will be presenting his 4th jacket at DIFFA/Dallas. Although he creates a different jacket every year, Jenkins is known for his revamped Swarovski-crystal-encrusted denim jacket which has a new addition every two to three months. He has carried this heavy crystal armor with him for the past 4 years showing that this is nothing less than an undying tradition for a competitive yet united cause.

After a few turnabouts around the grandeur room and a rendezvous with a dinosaur-inspired look from the Henson Studios in New York, we couldn’t help but to notice the sense of unity in the room. Although the attendees were from many different walks of life, we were all there in remembrance and support for those that we have lost to HIV and AIDS.

Concluding our evening with just a glimpse of what is to come on May 2, curiosity still overwhelms us — how can DIFFA get any better? Prepare yourselves so that your eyes may feast on these delectable denim delicacies.

He’s a stud in our book, no doubt, but apparently some of you think men with shaved bodies are nothing, but mere “pretty boys”, and not studs. Obviously, Kellan Lutz is an upgrade from last weeks posting of ‘Twilight’ cutie, Robert Pattinson, whom one person — ironically the same dude who commented about “pretty boys” — stated that Pattinson “looks like he has fetal alcohol syndrome.” Yikes, the comments are surely getting much more exciting.

Days after his public separation from Madonna, the scrumptious Jesus Luz finally surfaced again on Monday at Ipanema beach, seen with an unidentified male friend, in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro.

The 22-year-old model showed no sign of post-Madonna illnesses. Madge, however, is stirring up headlines around the world with her controversial adoption of her second Malawian kid.

Despite the happy sunshine attitude, Luz, who reportedly parted ways with the singer last week, cannot let go of one thing — the hat he started wearing while with her in New York. He has been photographed numerous times wearing it in Brazil whether it was arriving at the airport, partying with models, having a beer or walking on the beach. Maybe he’s trying to tell Madonna that he’s still in love with her?

I had a great two years under the TREY CRUZ name and have built this baby from the ground up, something of which I am most proud of. However, the times are changing and the competition is getting rough and I am left to either drop from the gay blogging competition, or rediscover my roots and push this blog further beyond my imagination.

Obviously, I chose to push this blog beyond its limit and go head-to-head with some of the most awesome bloggers out there. I won’t go into details on why I changed the name — you can read about that in the paper, but I really hope you guys like the new design and hopefully the new name is also kind of catchy, or at least easy to remember.

Our content will obviously still be gay-focused, but we are slowly bringing in the female content for the very few chicks and lesbians that reads our site. We also have one new writer, Miguel G., who have already contributed a tremendous amount of time to the content of this blog. Then we have our returning contributor, Sean K., who will be heading up our POPTRENDS section which will hopefully go live in a few weeks.

Please take a look around the blog, and if you find any weirdness leave a comment, and we’ll try to address the problem as soon as possible. Certain sections of the site and some links may still be dead. We are quickly trying to resolve that situation within’ the next few days.

I seriously hope you love the new look, the new name, and the contents we will be delivering on a daily basis.

Hollywood star Zac Efron, despite looking dapper in his sharp suit, was definitely ‘17 Again’ as he forgot to clean out his ears ahead of time before arriving for his movie premiere at the Odeon West End, Leicester Square, London.

Two days ago Efron was in the land of ‘qui qui’ promoting his movie to the French. Hmm, why was he all dressed up for the British premiere, but looked like shit at the French premiere? I wonder if his ears were even dirtier at the French promo.

‘17 Again’ is basically about a guy who has it all in high school, then grows up and realized he didn’t live out everything like he planned. He then turns seventeen again, and gets another chance to live things out differently.

OMG, my all time favorite guy is coming back to Degrassi! Canadian Italian hottie, Adamo Ruggiero, returns as Marco in ‘Degrassi Goes Hollywood.’

The Degrassi gang ventures to L.A. via school bus and plan to score parts in Mewesical High, a musical directed by Jason Mewes. Paige, personal assistant to “The Shores” reality star Hailey Montel, understands that in life you work from the ground up, but when Hollywood hands Paige a shortcut to fame and fortune, she gratefully jumps at the opportunity.

Is so much success so soon too much for Paige to handle? And can her closest friends Marco and Ellie save her from herself? Of course, Ellie is distracted by a chance encounter with her long-term crush and L.A. resident, Craig. Back at Smithdale University, Manny has immersed herself in her theater program and is committed to becoming an “actor of substance”.
